Stay out of the water during thunderstorms. If you can hear thunder, it is too close to swim. Wait 30 minutes until after the last rumble of thunder before going back into the water.  When finding shelter during a thunderstorm, stay away from water, wet items such as ropes, and metal objects such as fences and poles. Water and metal are excellent conductors of electricity.
