Foundations Supporting the Community of Caring Scholarship Program
Trevor “Birdie” Davis Water Safety Foundation
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Brad and Amy Davis decided to found the non-profit 501(c)(3) Trevor "Birdie" Davis Water Safety Foundation. For them, it seemed to be the only way to bring some-thing positive out of the worst day of their lives. The mission of the Foundation is to save children from accidental drowning by educating both children and adults about potential water hazards. The Foundation has raised over $60k, and has donated funds to help train ISR instructors in the Washington D.C. area. Click the picture to read more about this amazing foundation.
On September 18th, the Trevor 'Birdie' Davis Water Safety Foundation held its third annual Birdie Invitational in Reston, VA.
Since 2006, the Foundation has paid for the training of three individuals to become certified ISR instructors, and to date, more than 800 children have been trained in the ISR program in DC-Metro area. The Foundation's mission is to continue assisting instructors to become ISR certified and to provide scholarships to families in need of lessons in their city. In January of 2010, they will be sponsoring a fourth instructor training.
This video was pulled together by Instructors Katie Smith and Ashleigh Bullivant to show our great appreciation to the Davis family and the lives that they have impacted in their city.
Great Falls, VA - Sept. 24, 2008 - There was great success at the second annual Birdie Invitational golf tournament, named for the 2-year-old son Brad and Amy Davis lost to a swimming-pool drowning a little more than two years ago. Amy and her husband started the Trevor "Birdie" Davis Water Safety Foundation to help prevent what had happened to their family from happening to others. In January of this year, the foundation began paying to have ISR instructors trained in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Three have been trained, and two are already teaching. "It’s more than a swim class. Way more," she said. Support for the Great Falls couple’s effort has been strong, particularly in the Great Falls community. More than a dozen Great Falls businesses helped to sponsor the tournament, which sold out again this year with 144 golfers.
